Appeals process

Healthy Schools London Appeals Procedure
The appeals procedure is publicly available on the Healthy Schools London website.

1.1Grounds for an appeal
Some applicant schools may be disappointed with the outcome of the Awards process.
Appeals can not be made because schools disagree with the collective judgement of the Healthy Schools London Team and Healthy Schools London Strategic Advisory Group. Appeals may be made if the Healthy Schools London Team and/or Healthy Schools London Strategic Advisory Group did not consider material duly submitted to support an application.
Where it can be shown procedures have not been followed, schools may appeal for a review.

1.1.1 The following would be considered grounds for an appeal:

  • Extraneous factors or material were taken into account
  • Unlawful discrimination based on, for example, gender, ethnicity, age
  • Bias or conflict of interest on the part of a committee

1.1.2 Any appeal must be lodged within four weeks of the Award notification being issued to the school

1.1.3 Appeals against decisions of The Healthy Schools London Team and/or Healthy Schools London Strategic Advisory will be will be passed to the Chair of the Strategic Advisory Group who is not part of the Awards approval process.

1.1.4 If a school has applied for a HSL Award, and feels the Awards process has not been followed, they can lodge a complaint to the Chair of the Strategic Advisory Group. This should be sent in writing, detailing the reasons why they think the procedure was not correctly followed.

1.1.5 The Chair will try to find an informal resolution. If this is unsuccessful, the Chair will arrange for a panel of people, not previously involved in considering the application, to investigate. This panel will contain a Healthy Schools London Borough Lead and a Consultant in Public Health and will be chaired by the Chair of the SAG.

1.1.6 Once the investigation is complete, the Chair will write to the school and report the panel's findings.

1.1.7 The decision of the Chair of the SAG is final.
